The Happy Hollows – Astrid

If you’re needing some 80s power synth to get over the mid-week rut, look no further than “Astrid”, the new release from LA three-piece, The Happy Hollows.

Since the chance encounter that led to bassist Charles Mahoney and frontwoman Sarah Negahdari meeting, The Happy Hollows have accumulated a host of achievements—two albums under their belt with a third in the works, supporting the likes of Japandroids and Silversun Pickups, providing the soundtrack to a commercial, and featuring on TV in a guest appearance on NBC TV’s Parenthood.

When I first heard the opening of “Astrid”, I was immediately brought back to the 80s (not that I lived through that decade) via the bassline in Journey‘s “Don’t Stop Believin’”. “Astrid” has all the driving percussions, pulsating synths, and catchy guitar hooks that you might need.

“Astrid” is out now and released ahead of their first UK tour, where they currently are. If you’re in the UK, check them out!

THE BREAKDOWN:

Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Latest Release: “Astrid” out now! (or Amethyst, 2013)
Sounds Like: Yeah Yeah Yeahs with an added 80s vibe.
Say What? Bass player Charles Mahoney came across frontwoman Sarah Negahdari in a mall where Sarah was reading tarot cards to pay the bills.

Happy Listening!
